This is AGL’s first tutorial. This is about installing Ubuntu 9.04 in Sun Virtual Box. As a tech blog we have decided to see if this is something people will like. If so we may do a few more on different ones. Some upcoming posts will include Mint US, What is the best phone for geeks, what are geeks into, and the new touchbook.
This is a simple install in a virtual machine of Ubuntu. I will be posting the steps i wrote down.
Please let us know what you think. Next one may be about Super OS
* In this video I will show you how to install Ubuntu 9.04 in Sun Virtual Box.
* First, make sure you have downloaded VBox and the iso from Ubuntu.
* If you have more memory, this is a good thing. I have 3 gigs. this is a laptop so not a lot.
* You want to use an internal drive, this would be better. Also make sure it is dynamicly expanding.
* Using 8 gigs for a start is fine, remmeber as the install gets bigger so does the drive.
* Now that the machine is made, we will boot it. Remember we have no chosen a new ISO yet.
* Yes that was a legal copy of windows 7. I have a technet account if you must know!
* Keep in mind, I usually run SuperOS but you can not get that in 64 bit version yet.
* This may take a bit, I will have to remove some wait time in the editing.
* You can choose your language here.
* then your time zone, At the moment I am in central, but i live in eastern.
* Now if you are new to installing Ubuntu or Linux in general, You should probably go with the “Use entire disk” This would be the better option.
* For those that know what they are doing, you can do what you like here.
* Now choose your name, login and password, along with computer name
* It is best to require a login, if not it is hard to use sudo.
* You probably noticed my background. For those that know me, know I do not like apple but I do love this desktop background.
* I was asked by many people at Gnomedex where I got it, but I just can not remember.
* This takes a bit, specially since I did not use a lot of memory for the virtual machine.
* I could use more as in this laptop I have about 500 gigs of space.
* Ok welcome to Ubuntu! First…. You need to reboot, remind you of another OS?
* Remember to unmount the umage like i just did. I’ll show you that again..
* then press enter.
* Where Virtual Box sometimes does not release the disc, you need to “Hard Boot” meaning release the disc, it will go to the install screen press the down button
then go to boot from hard drive.
